ADL and JLens Welcome Sephora’s Statement
New York, NY, August 7, 2025 … ADL and JLens welcome the growing momentum among consumers and companies in response to recent antisemitic remarks made by beauty influencer and Huda Beauty founder Huda Kattan. Following widespread outrage over her promotion of conspiracy theories blaming Israel for the World Wars, 9/11, and other global tragedies, TikTok removed an antisemitic video posted by Kattan, and Sephora—one of the largest beauty retailers in the world with over 2,700 stores across 35 countries—publicly confirmed it is reviewing its relationship with the brand.
“Sephora’s statement is an important signal that major retailers are beginning to recognize the serious implications of platforming hate,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of ADL. “We are encouraged by this step—and we will be watching closely to see whether it is followed by meaningful action. No brand should be given a pass when its founder spreads dangerous antisemitic myths.”
According to ADL’s Global 100 Index fielded in 2024, more than one-third of adults globally agree with the antisemitic trope that “Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars.” When these conspiracy theories are promoted by an influencer with tens of millions of followers, the impact is global, and the consequences are real.
ADL affiliate JLens called on all Huda Beauty authorized retailers to review their relationship with the brand. “Momentum is building—and it’s clear that consumers, advocates, and investors are demanding accountability,” said Ari Hoffnung, Managing Director of JLens. “Sephora has taken a responsible first step. We hope this inspires other retailers—including Amazon, Walmart, and Harrods —to follow suit and review their partnerships with Huda Beauty.”
