Fall Intern: Jewish Values-Based Investing

Position Title: JLens Research, Advocacy and Communications Intern

Reports to: JLens Director of Network Development and JLens Director of Advocacy

Supervision Exercised: None

Location: Remote (Central or Eastern Time), with Boston, Chicago and New York preferred

Duration: September 2024 - December 2024 

Hours: 10-15 hours/week

JLens empowers investors to align their capital with Jewish values and advocates for Jewish communal priorities in the corporate arena. An affiliate of ADL since 2022, JLens was launched in 2012 to explore investing through a Jewish lens and to increase the Jewish community’s participation in shareholder advocacy with the world’s largest and most influential public corporations. Our Jewish Investor Network is composed of over 30 Jewish institutions, representing more than $10 billion in Jewish community investment capital. These institutions have invested over $260M in products licensing JLens’ Jewish Advocacy Strategy. This research, advocacy & screening strategy, which since 2015 has achieved returns similar to the S&P 500, is the only strategy that conducts Jewish shareholder advocacy with hundreds of the largest U.S. public companies. JLens’ advocacy is focused on combating antisemitism & hate, supporting Israel, and addressing critical Tikkun Olam issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

Depending on JLens’ priorities, responsibilities may include:

  • Assist JLens in our scoring of companies in our index, including researching the public companies held in JLens’ portfolio, assessing disclosure relevant to JLens’ Jewish value pillars, and analyzing company performance.

  • Assist JLens in team projects, which may include short-term research projects and assistance with JLens’ communications and development. 

  • Assist in prioritizing companies for outreach, and tracking outreach

  • Attend social responsible investing webinars, taking notes of potential areas of advocacy for JLens.

  • Collect information on investor relations/corporate sustainability contacts at new JLens constituents and input data into internal systems.

  • Assist JLens with data management, including organizing company scoring and engagement information in our internal systems.

  • Conduct research on new potential donors and investors in JLens’ strategies.

  • Contribute to JLens’ impact reporting and communications by analyzing company data across JLens’ Jewish values pillars.

  • Create communications pieces for JLens’ blog, newsletter and social media.

 

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Strong research (both quantitative and qualitative) and analytical skills

  • Ability to analyze data from multiple sources, identify key information, and communicate key points in writing

  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational abilities

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Ability to work efficiently in a virtual environment and to multi-task

  • Commitment to ADL and JLens’ mission and values, and interest in the corporate responsibility/socially responsible investing field

  • Demonstrated interest in ESG and/or knowledge and experience in any or all of JLens six areas of focus is a plus

Work Experience

  • The ideal candidate has research or communications experience, including work with quantitative and qualitative data and analysis.

Education

  • Preference for coursework including business, ESG, environmental studies, social impact, Jewish studies, marketing & communications or other relevant areas of study, but open to anyone with a demonstrated interest

Work Environment

  • ADL is a hybrid environment; this role is able to be fully remote.

 

Compensation

  • Dependent on location; $15/hr or local minimum wage, whichever is higher.
